Friday the 13th and all that goes with it!

What do you think of this date?

It is associated with bad luck, we are to avoid black cats, walking under ladders (this just makes for good common sense anyway!)

A multitude of ‘scary’ facts put forth in horror movies, hotels omitting a 13th floor, houses numbered 13 sell for much less than any counterpart between 1-100.

However, I don’t buy into this notion, in fact I celebrate the day, the number, the origins of the power this time brings!

This auspicious day was always about women celebrating and embracing their freedom to express their femininity, sexuality, power and beauty.

It was never considered bad.

The roots of such claims can be traced back to lore spread through christianity and the patriarchy.

Some of you may question this, do these factions have the power to ruin a date and number purely because it doesn’t suit them?

Do you love having pockets in a dress?

Me too.

This is a classic example of women being told what to do and how their beauty should be. Men banned pockets because

‘women had four external bulges already-two breasts, tow hips- and a money pocket in their dress would make for an ungainly 5th (The London Spectator) Men had all the money, the power.

Women are witches, don’t you know? Pockets were also removed/banned save us carrying all our spells and curses!

And this was just Pockets so defaming a date over centuries is a doddle!

Before this day shaming began and to this day, 13 is connected to the day of the goddess with the flow of feminine energy of grandmother moon and her 13 cycles. Women’s cycles flow on average 13 cycles per year, hence why the goddess day of Friday when coupled with 13 is so potent and powerful for women to celebrate all they are.

Similarly, 13 is considered positive for holding a Wiccan coven of this number, with our lives expanding through 13 stages, as do Egyptians believe in the 13 stages of life. The number 13 is the number of creation, death and rebirth.

In Italy, it’s Friday the 17th which carries bad omens, the 13th considered generally a very lucky number.

The energy is all around of us! Tap in to this and honour your divinity.

Women are beautiful.

We are sold images of what is perfect, how products will essentially make us more attractive. All I see within this? I’m being told I’m not good enough. I, We, Women are ugly and require fixing to be of an acceptable standard…Ha! Grey hairs mean you’re old, laughter lines mean’s you have no spark, to be sexy you need a tiny waist and legs for days! ‘Here you go! We have something that will sort your failings as a perfect specimen out’

Even feminine hygiene products tell us we should be out roller skating and laughing with friends; the underlying message also ‘keep your menstrual flow hidden, don’t act any differently’

I wonder why?

We are encouraged to dismay at ourselves and to hold others to those unrealistic harmful media driven standards, with permission to tell another woman she’s fat, not enough this or that. In turn with the evolution of social media, urgh! This plays even more into the hands of those who sell us such things. Snippets of lives so we begin to feel inferior.

Do you remember when you first thought I’m one ugly MF?

Did you hear someone say this one is beautiful because they have xyz as a child? Maybe compared to others by family or during the formative school years?

They were indoctrinated long before you were brought into the fold, creating insecurity or egos within their mindset to take the baton for the next generations.

Let’s rebel! Do something because you want to. As children we put posters on walls, maybe we loved the person in the picture but it also only led to thinking only certain people are attractive, if you didn’t look like them then no one will like you.

Who sets these rules? The same agencies as the ones who say Friday the 13th is unlucky, OOooooh ‘stay indoors, don’t breathe or get out of bed’ Creating horror movies, secret societies to reinforce this control of the mind. I’m pretty sure Michael Myers killed on many days!

Our power is in our divine beauty.

This feminine energy is powerful upon this day. Goddess divinity; we should empower each other, with Shakti, Kali energy or whatever goddess calls to you where you are on your path.

Hecate, Selene the moon goddess…Friday is also Freya’s day!

Every year when there is a Friday the 13th, we’re actually celebrating Freya’s Day or Aphrodite’s day. Freya’s number is 13. A day of love to be sure.

Considered the goddess of love and the equivalent to the roman goddess of Venus, Freya is also the leader of the Valkyries, powerful Warrior Women who collect the warrioress dead to transport them to Valhalla, one inspirational badass don’t you think?

And so are you my gorgeous love.

With a new moon, with a solar eclipse bonded to this time, it brings extra meaning to this day in October of 2023.

This solar eclipse is about shadow work. As the Libra moon moves between earth and the sun, the fire circle, a portal, is the gateway between where you are right now to the next phase of your evolution.

The moon moving through Libra often gives the strong need to create harmonious spaces however during this time the peace will be sought through the ending of relationships as the placement at this time makes for opposition with the sign of Aries encounters of high energy for narcissists even our own desires will need to be kept in check.

As the fire of Aries is rooted with such energy, it will benefit from the solar eclipse and the passing through of healing force of the Asteroid Chiron bringing about a more abrupt end to relationships no longer serving your highest needs, in a more conclusive way rather than combative. We can learn from our experiences to become stronger, feeling more restorative and necessary.

Venus rules this day with love, compassion, however be sure to honour you at this time, relax, spend some time by yourself for some good introspection, don’t rise to any issues or eruptions of flaring tempters when choosing your peace utilising the Libra influences, (which is ruled by Venus) tips the scales in ways required for obstacles to move out of your way. This could even mean your own indecision being called out.

This time is here to transition you from your old life to the new by revealing what need to be released, balance is found within and without. Rebirth, new beginnings found at the start of the lunar cycle brings both personal and universal transformations. This week building up to this energy filled weekend, feels littered with discovery, heart felt disappointments, understanding not everyone has a heart like yours.

so how do you feel about this date? Just another day or a reason to embrace your raw power?

(You also don’t need a Friday to feel the power of being a Woman either, just maybe use it as a check point to remind yourself how perfect you are.)
